KINETIC SCULPTURE I

KINETIC SCULPTURE
ZINNIA
Kinetic art according to the definition is an art that contains movement perceivable by the viewer or that relies on motion for its effect. While the definition explains the practical notion, it doesn’t emphasize the hypnotic capabilities of the art form. And though it comprises any medium, it incorporates multidimensional movement and often kinetic sculptures comes to our mind.
This sculpture has achieved apparent movement (optical illusion) other than the real movement which in itself is mesmerizing and inducing. One wheel rotating anticlockwise and the other clockwise provides the viewer a satisfying visual appeal till the end. This sculpture was made during the module of Kinetic sculpture where we were asked to study some existing kinetic sculpture. This sculpture is inspired from the Zinnia by Clayton Boyer. The mechanism in this sculpture has been simplified down to just pendulum which itself provides movement for atleast 2 minutes.
